Nuffield Newbury Combat-athon and Cake-athon.
27th September 2014
5 hours of full on Body Combat was undertaken by 60 crazed fitness fanatics, in the capable hands of instructors Sarah, Naz, Emma and Latanja. Coupled with a raffle and Cake-athon, the event has so far raised over £3200 and sponsorship money is still coming in!
The funds raised are being split 50/50 between two charities close to the hearts of the instructors and the clubs members;
Action Duchenne & The Neonatal Unit & Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.
Helping Hayden would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the organisers (Julie, Sarah and Emma), all those that attended, the generous businesses that donated raffle prizes plus Nuffield for hosting the event. Hope the aches and pains are fading!
Fourmarks Village Ball '14
An excellent night had by all at the Fourmarks Village Ball.
The evening kicked off early with arrival drinks and the purchasing of £25 'bows' each providing a prize greater than this in value. All 70 sold within the first hour.
Food comprised a Hog Roast, Indian appetisers and ice creams for pudding.
Non music entertainment was provided by Robert Bone a master of illusion.
Post dinner entertainment was provided by the excellent Blobby Williams, former member of Take Fat.
An auction ensued with fantastic lots including holidays, flights, signed items from Prof Brian Cox, concert tickets, plus the final outcome of 'Silent Auction' items.
The evening was rounded off with an awesome rock set from the 'Stone Geckos'.
Much alcohol was drunk, much dancing was done, and a fabulous total of £10651 was raised, to be split 50/50 between Cancer Research and Action Duchenne.
Our grateful thanks to all that attended, all that generously donated items, all the bidders and the organising team, particularly Glenda & Gareth Edwards.
London Marathon '14
London Marathon 2014
Emotional, great fun, thoroughly enjoyable, sights, sounds and cheering crowds and physically the toughest thing I have ever done in my life! This is how Dawn described the pleasure of taking her Obsessive Running Disorder to the absolute limit at the UK's premier marathon - the London Marathon 2014. Hasten to add that this summary was written a couple of months after the pain had subsided and the blisters healed!
Many congratulations to each of the Action Duchenne runners, including Dawn Howell and Simon Green for sticking with it and reaching the end!
Dawn raised £2860.25 including the funds from the Great Baydon Bakeoff
Simon raised £2505.43!
Great Baydon Bakeoff '14
The Great Baydon Bake Off!
In aid of Action Duchenne
Took place on Saturday 1st March 2014 at 'The Red Lion' in Baydon
The Red Lion pub was packed to capacity at lunchtime on for the Great Baydon Bake Off.
Tables were groaning with a magnificent array of cakes, cookies, cupcakes and even an entire gingerbread family complete with a pet dog!
There were 9 entries in the key stage 1 category, 10 in key stage 2 a strong field in the under 16 section and 22 entries in the adult section.
With over 50 bakes to judge, the judges, Anthony & Jody had a mammoth task to find the winners amongst such a vast variety of delicious confectionery. Jody is a professional cook who has worked with Raymond Blanc and Anthony Worrell Thompson. Anthony owns the 'Shepherds Bakery' in Chieveley.
All of the bakes were sold after the event, along with breads and pastries donated by Shepherds Bakery amd Aston's Organic Bakery (Sheepdrove).
It was a fantastic community event; great to walk to the pub and see many Baydon residents making the trek to submit their entries for judging.
The event raised £597 for Action Duchenne!
The fabulous organising committee comprised; Mandy Dore, Marissa Carter and Dawn Howell
With huge thanks to Mark and and Julie from the Red Lion
The very serious matter of judging!
